Genfarma Company received pharmaceutical manufacturing technology transfer from Cuba.

On the afternoon of August 31, Mr. Miguel Díaz-Canel, First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic of Cuba, together with Minister of Health Đào Hồng Lan, visited the Genfarma factory at Hoa Lac High-Tech Park, Hanoi.

"Biological products and biotechnology from Cuba are fields with many achievements. Technology transfer will bring mutual benefits and promote the production of important medicines for the people of both Vietnam and Cuba," Mr. Miguel Díaz-Canel emphasized.

According to the assessment of both sides, receiving technology from Cuba will help enhance research and development capabilities for Vietnam’s pharmaceutical industry. Through the Genfarma project, people will also have the opportunity to access high-quality medicines at reasonable costs, especially medicines used in cancer treatment. In addition, with close and comprehensive cooperation between the pharmaceutical sectors of the two countries, this project will help strengthen pharmaceutical security and promote biotechnology in Vietnam, while opening the door for Cuba’s biotechnology and pharmaceutical technologies to fully realize their potential and advance into the global market.

In May, a joint venture agreement between BioCubaFarma S.A. of Cuba and Vietnamese enterprises was signed. Three months later, the project had largely taken shape, with modern facilities and a complete organizational structure.

BioCubaFarma has 51 subsidiaries and 9 joint ventures abroad, of which 6 overseas companies have manufacturing facilities. BioCubaFarma currently operates 164 production lines, including 11 overseas production lines, exports more than 300 products to over 40 countries, and has carried out technology transfer to Brazil, India, Venezuela, Algeria, China, Russia, Iran and Vietnam.
